A 1-day workshop in building a top bar hive. Join us for an informative and rewarding day learning how to put together a 4 foot free standing natural beekeeping hive. All tools and materials will be provided. The wood is cut ready to be assembled. This course is suitable for all who are keen to learn and have the satisfaction of putting together their own hive. The hive is then yours to take away and help to increase the bee population.
Suitable for all skill levels – no previous experience necessary. The hive can easily be built on your own but some previous hive builders have enjoyed having a friend along to support them. The hive will have a periscope entrance, bottom board and a glass viewing pane.
The course is run by Jim Binning [www.jimthebee.co.uk] who has modified the original Barefoot Beekeeper design to suit his needs over the last five years of keeping bees in these hives. During the day Jim will share his knowledge and experience of top bar beekeeping.
What do you need to bring: All tools will be provided to construct the hives but if you prefer to work with own tools then a hammer and battery drill are the main tools to use. Tea, coffee and cake will be provided but you will need to bring your own lunch. It is not a particularly messy job but wear old, warm clothing. Remember the hive needs to fit in your vehicle to take home. The hives are about 4 feet long.
